Course Description

What is the Level 3 Health and Safety in the Workplace course?

The Level 3 Health and Safety in the Workplace course is an advanced workplace health and safety qualification designed for people who are working, or preparing to work, at supervisory or management level.

It builds on general health and safety awareness and develops a deeper understanding of workplace legislation, safety management systems, risk assessment, common workplace hazards, control measures and the management of accidents and occupational ill health.

The qualification is particularly suited to people who supervise others, manage work activities or have increased responsibility for health and safety within their organisation.

What the course feels like

This is more than a basic health and safety awareness course.

Learners are encouraged to think about how health and safety is actually managed within an organisation, why incidents happen, how workplace risk should be controlled and how supervisors and managers can influence safer working practices.

Our instructors use practical examples, discussion and workplace scenarios to help learners understand how the principles of health and safety management apply in real working environments.

For private courses, examples can be related to your own organisation, workforce and the hazards your employees are likely to encounter.

How the Course builds your knowledge

The course progresses through five main areas of workplace health and safety.

1 – Health, Safety & Welfare Responsibilities

Develop a more detailed understanding of workplace health and safety legislation, employer and employee responsibilities, enforcement, workplace welfare and the consequences of failing to meet legal requirements.

2 – Safety Management Systems

Explore how organisations manage health and safety through structured systems, including the benefits of effective safety management and the Plan, Do, Check, Act approach.

4 – Workplace Hazards & Control Measures

Explore common workplace hazards, the factors that influence risk and the measures organisations can use to reduce the likelihood of injury or ill health.

5 – Accidents, Incidents & Investigation

Understand what should happen following an accident or incident, including recording, reporting, RIDDOR requirements and the principles of simple accident investigation.

3 – Risk Assessment

Understand the principles of workplace risk assessment, including different types of assessment, the five-step process, specific risk assessments and the hierarchy of control.

Is This the Right Health & Safety Course for Me?

The Level 3 Health and Safety in the Workplace qualification is most appropriate for people who need more than general workplace awareness.

If you are an employee who simply needs a practical introduction to workplace hazards, responsibilities and risk assessment, our Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace course may be more appropriate.

If your role involves supervising people, managing work activities, contributing to safety systems or taking greater responsibility for workplace health and safety, Level 3 is likely to be the better option.

If you are unsure, contact us before booking and we can help you identify the most appropriate qualification.

How Long Is the Level 3 Health & Safety Course?

Successful learners receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (RQF). Qualsafe also provides an online certificate verification service, allowing employers to confirm the validity of the qualification.

The qualification itself does not have a fixed expiry date. However, Qualsafe recommends that learners refresh their Level 3 Health and Safety training every 3 years to help keep their knowledge current and maintain awareness of good workplace health and safety practice.

How our training is different

We don’t believe advanced health and safety training should feel like a long list of regulations and definitions. Our approach is practical, discussion-led and focused on how health and safety is actually managed in the workplace.

We use realistic examples to explore how risks develop, why incidents happen, how control measures are selected and how supervisors and managers can influence safer working practices. For private courses, we can relate examples to your own organisation, activities and workplace hazards, helping learners connect the qualification content with their day-to-day responsibilities.
