This one-day course combines essential theory with practical application to help learners move people safely and confidently in a range of care and support settings. The course includes:

Legal responsibilities and key principles of safe moving and handling
Manual handling risk assessments and how to apply them in practice
Developing and following personal handling plans
Basic anatomy – understanding the spine and how movement affects it
The mechanics of movement – using posture and technique to prevent injury
Unsafe practices – recognising and avoiding harmful manoeuvres
Practical skills – moving people:
- Independently
- As part of a team
- Using handling aids and equipment

By the end of the course, learners will be able to demonstrate safe techniques that maintain the comfort, dignity, and safety of the person being moved while protecting themselves and their colleagues from injury.
