Health & Social Care > Essentials Of Sepsis Recognition & Escalation

Course Description

Is this course suitable for me or my staff?

This course is most suitable for care organisations and staff supporting people aged 16 and over.

Sepsis is a serious health condition that affects hundreds of thousands of people in the UK each year. It occurs when the body’s response to an infection causes damage to its own tissues and organs. Without prompt recognition and treatment, sepsis can lead to organ failure and may be fatal.

Because the signs of sepsis can be difficult to identify, early recognition and timely escalation are essential. Care and support staff are often well placed to notice subtle changes in a person’s condition and raise concerns quickly.

Our Essentials of Sepsis Recognition and Escalation for Care and Support Staff course is delivered face to face by experienced healthcare professionals. It provides learners with the knowledge, practical understanding and confidence to identify people who may be at risk, recognise possible signs of sepsis and escalate concerns appropriately.

For further information about sepsis and the work of the UK Sepsis Trust, visit the UK Sepsis Trust website.

What do I get at the end of the course?

Learners will receive a Sector 3 Group certificate which is valid for 1 year and a summary of elements covered throughout the course. Perhaps most importantly you’ll feel ready to identify the signs and symptoms of Sepsis and have the confidence to escalate care should the need arise.

Sepsis Champions!

We encourage organisations to become more sepsis aware by identifying individuals who can help maintain knowledge and good practice within their teams.

Following the course, you may choose to nominate a member of staff as an internal Sepsis Champion. This could be someone who promotes awareness, supports colleagues, shares learning and encourages prompt recognition and escalation when sepsis is suspected.

For further guidance and resources about sepsis awareness, visit the UK Sepsis Trust website.
